History

Personal History Casey Washburn was born in the summer of 2355, the last of his parents’s two children. His father Patrick was, and still is, a prominent local politician in Chicago. When his second son was born, Patrick Washburn was beginning his first of three terms as Mayor of Chicago. Casey’s mother, although she held a Master’s Degree in Starship Engineering from MIT, was a stay at home mother that worked part time as a design consultant for Starfleet.

Casey was a better than average student in school, making high marks in technology and mathematics classes. But being such a large and muscular built individual he was also a good athlete, competing in both baseball and Parissee’s Squares. But more than sports, his true passion was finding out what made things tick and trying to imporve upon them. One particular incident involved Casey getting himself into a good deal of trouble for hacking into a low-priority console at Starfleet’s Chicago Shuttle Dock and downloading computer core schematics for several different small craft. By the time Starfleet Security caught up to Casey, he had drawn up plans to improve upon the processing capabilities of the computers. These improvements, along with some pleading from his father, kept Casey out of Juvenille Detention. But it also changed the course of his life forever.

Following the Shuttle Dock incident, Casey’s parents decided to re-evaluate his course of study in school. For the last two years of high school, Casey participated in an advanced course of study that focused on understanding and integrating alien and non-Federation technologies seamlessly. Casey thrives in this environment, and eventually decided to focus his studies more on technological compatibility and reverse engineering. To that end, he applied to Starfleet and was accepted in 2373 as a double major in Starship Operations and Xenotechnology.
Starfleet History Casey’s double major would make him uniquely qualified upon graduation in 2377. He was sought after as an Operations Officer by several Captains that we’re beginn deep space assignments; eventually, Casey was ordered to the classified research facility on Druwinda II as a Xenotechnology specialist. Ensign Washburn spent three years at the research annex as a science officer, and although he is not permitted to discuss the nature of his work there his superiors were very pleased with his performance. In 2380 Casey was reassigned to the Nebula class USS Atlas as a Beta shift Operations Officer. This was his first shipboard assignment; although Casey was a bit intimidated at first, he soon earned a reputation for diligence and efficiency that eventually led to his being named Assistant Operations Chief in 2382. He served in that capacity for three years before being transferred to the Sovereign class USS Saskatoon as Chief of Operations. In 2389 when the Palatine was finished, Casey was stationed there as Chief of Operations.
